BGE Connects: The path ahead for biodiversity genomics
The Biodiversity Genomics Connects, one of the major events for genomic science, took place in Brussels, between the 30th September and 1st October. It was organised by the Biodiversity Genomics Europe (BGE) consortium.
The event was a major opportunity for innovators, stakeholders, policymakers, and researchers from Europe to network and discuss the future of biodiversity genomics in technical and policy-related ways.
To achieve this, the event included both a symposium and a networking event. The symposium was kick-started with a programme titled ‘Unlocking the power of genomic science for nature and the bioeconomy in Europe’, and the main topic was supporting biodiversity via DNA methods and genomic science. Following the symposium, BGE hosted a networking reception welcoming all the participants and speakers in the Dinosaurs Hall of the Royal Belgian Institute of Natural Sciences.
OBSGESSION was featured in an oral presentation on “Roadmap for implementing environmental DNA (eDNA) and other molecular monitoring methods in Finland’, alongside other related projects - eDNaqua- Plan, DNAquaIMG, and PRIODIVERSITY. The recording is available on BGE's YouTube channel. This presented OBSGESSION as a project where eDNA is used in combination with remote sensing for monitoring of biodiversity.
