OBSGESSION workshop: Fostering Science-Policy dialogue

Recognising that bidirectional science-policy connection is integral for future environmental decisions and policy making, the UN Environment Programme World Conservation Monitoring Centre (UNEP-WCMC) is organising a Stakeholder Workshop for Science-Policy Needs under the OBSGESSION project.

The workshop, which will be held in an online setting on 25th of September 2025, will focus on the connection between the project and the stakeholders. During the workshop the OBSGESSION project will be presented to stakeholders from the European Commission, with  an emphasis on how the project can address policy needs and gaps. The workshop will also provide an overview of the project progress made so far and explore the pathways through which OBSGESSION’s work can support EU policymakers and contribute to the implementation of relevant policies moving forward.

During the workshop, various project partners and stakeholders will present the current status of their work. Striving to foster a conversation between the two groups, following the presentations, participants will have the opportunity to engage in a discussion on how OBSGESSION can better respond to their policy needs. Everyones perspectives brings something to the table, that is why all participants are encouraged to share theirs, which will help ensure that the project outcomes benefit from the input of stakeholders from the EC.

By uniting scientific expertise with policymaking insight, the workshop aims to ensure that OBSGESSION’s outcomes are both relevant and achievable. The active participation of stakeholders will not only shape the project’s next steps but also strengthen the science–policy pipeline, helping to translate research into policies across the European Union.

Stay tuned for updates from the workshop!
