Presentation at the Province of Overijssel

Recently, project partners from the University of Twente gave an oral presentation introducing cutting-edge tools for nature conservation to a team of ecologists and GIS experts at the Province of Overijssel, Zwolle, Netherlands. The session focused on Essential Biodiversity Variables (EBVs), environmental DNA (eDNA), and remote sensing technologies – key components of the OBSESSION project.

While the innovative approaches sparked substantial interest among local experts, challenges were noted regarding their implementation. Local and national regulations currently limit the adoption of new tools and methods, posing hurdles for integrating these advancements into existing conservation frameworks.

The discussion highlighted both the potential of modern conservation technologies and the need for regulatory flexibility to support their practical application.
