OBSGESSION at the 2024 SFE² Congress: A conversation on ecology and evolution

“At this congress, researchers in ecology and evolution feel it is their duty to remind those who influence the direction of our societies of their full responsibility for the future that is taking shape, to take the measure of it and to act accordingly.” - Congrès SFE² Motions

The Biennial meeting of the French Society of Ecology and Evolution was held from 21-25 October, 2024, at Lyon, France.

Covering a range of themes - including ecological systems, health, evolutionary mechanisms, and organismal adaptations to environmental change - the congress aims to amplify the conversation around climate change and the urgent need for policy action.. Presentations were spread through twenty-six sessions and 11 symposia and explored various aspects of ecology, agronomy, molecular biology, evolution, conservation biology and technological advancements in those areas.

The OBSGESSION project participated in the Advances in Statistical Ecology symposium. Joaquim Estopinan (CNRS) gave a talk titled “Applying Causal Inference in Ecology: Motivation, Assumptions and Methods”, where he introduced the DAM (Detection-Attribution-Modelling) framework and explained the motivations for using causal methods to detect and properly attribute biodiversity changes to their drivers.
